Honouring Roots and Tradition: A Visit to Isale-Eko

Deep Roots and Traditional Values

Today, I paid homage to His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, and also visited the Ègbè Family House in Isale-Eko, Lagos Island.

As someone whose roots are deeply connected to this community, visits like this are far more than ceremonial. They serve as a powerful reminder of the rich cultural heritage and historical foundation upon which our modern state is built.

Reconnecting with our traditional institutions reaffirms the enduring values, customs, and sacrifices that have guided and shaped the generations of leaders who came before us.

The Role of History in Modern Governance

The traditional institutions of Lagos, particularly the esteemed throne of the Oba of Lagos, have historically played an instrumental role in maintaining peace, fostering unity, and promoting the socioeconomic development of our people.

During our thoughtful discussions, we reflected on the continuous need for synergy between traditional leadership and modern governance to address the evolving needs of our communities while preserving our unique identity.

Grounded Leadership

I deeply appreciate the warm reception and the profound wisdom shared by His Royal Majesty during the visit. Engaging with our elders and traditional rulers provides invaluable perspectives that enrich our administrative approach.

Leadership is undeniably strongest when it remains grounded in its people, its history, and its shared values. We will continue to draw strength from our heritage as we navigate the journey toward a greater, more prosperous Lagos.

"A society that honors its past is better equipped to build a resilient and inclusive future. Our traditions are the bedrock of our progress."
